Kisumu All Stars FC, a team that was assembled by the county government of Kisumu last year to take up the NSL slot that was left vacant by the exit of another promising Kisumu side, Palos FC, is on the verge of KPL promotion in only its second season in the second tier league.

The Blue Eagles (the team’s nickname) have just given their promotion ambitions a huge shot in the arm today by nipping Kenya Police FC 1 nil in a hard fought win here in Kisumu before a very excited, weekday home crowd.

It’s now only three matches to go to end of season and All Stars are sitting tight in second spot with 71 points, four points shy of top placed Wazito’s tally of 75.

Nairobi Stima comes in a close third tied on points with All Stars but inferior on goal difference. It’s a race that promises to go down to the wire as all top three teams aim to nudge each other off to secure a top two finish. The top two get automatic qualifications to the top tier Kenya Premier League while the third placed battles it out in a playoff against the third bottom placed KPL team at the end of the season.

Think about Kisumu having a bona fide home grown football outfit in the premier league.

Think about the atmosphere in the stadium when Gor Mahia FC comes visiting to play against our homeboys, when the likes of AFC Leopards come to do battle in this football mad city, when fans all over town are donning the blue and white of the Eagles, when goals and wins are celebrated on the streets as in the stadium.

Electric, right?

Well that dream is getting too real now. All Stars is going all in, in the homestretch and they are on full shine.

Up next; the boys play Fortune Sacco FC away in Thika on 1st June. Another win and the champagne will have to be ensconsed in some good ice in earnest. The last home game for the lads will be against Green Commandos from Kakamega on 5th June then the team goes on the road to bring the curtains down on the 9th June against Thika United in Thika.

The prospects are good.

Football made in Kisumu is about to give some dazzle in riveting fashion on the national stage once again.

Go go Blue Eagles! Go go Otenga!

Can’t wait ?.
