Gor Mahia Football Club were this evening crowned the Sportpesa Premier League 2018 champions after drawing 2-2 with Mathare United at Moi Stadium Kisumu.
This makes it the second time in 5 years that the 17 times premier league champion gets coronated in the lakeside city. The first time was 2015.
The national event brought in fans and spectators from far and wide, notably the ones from the various Gor Mahia fans branches from Nairobi with their numerous pimped-up rides parked at the Jomo Kenyatta Sportsground.
The Prime Minister Rt Honorable Raila Odinga was also in attendance alongside county government and Football Kenya Federation officials.
Mathare United are currently at number 8, and sure were no match to a well-oiled Gor Mahia side. But the 1 point gained away at Gor Mahia’s strongest support base was a well deserved one. The Mathare boys played well.
Sportpesa had earlier yesterday also screened live transmission of various EPL matches that were ongoing in England, and also awarding 50 other local teams from the region with sports kits. This is a sure sign that Kisumu and the lakeside region is home to great creative football talents and skills that needs nurturing to complete fruition.
Congratulations Kogallo. Chuor timbe 🏆🏆. Now onto the next championship.
