While President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit is not in any way political, he might address the state of fishing in the town and how to better it in the coming days. Well, it will also be difficult to fight the urge to tell residents the achievements of his government with only three months to the elections.

The upcoming trip to the region will be his sixth since taking over power since 2013.

“The President is going for the national drama festival. He may have other meetings but definitely will not address roadside rallies,” a statement by State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu reads.

The lakeside City of Kisumu has this year played host to the National Drama Festival, held at various venues in the city.

The Kenya National Drama Festival (KNDF) is an annual co-curricular activity, run by the Ministry of Education. The goal of the festival is to tap and nurture creative talent among the Kenyan youth.

During his visit to Kisumu on Tuesday, the Head of State is expected to have dinner with local leaders and address the public in Kisumu town.

“We will convince him to walk and talk to Kisumu residents and encourage them to maintain peace in the forthcoming elections,” Jubilee Party nominated Senator Joy Gwendo said.

She said President Kenyatta was concerned with various development projects not only in Kisumu but across the country.

“The issue of the water hyacinth choking Lake Victoria is of major concern to the President, especially due to its economic value to the community,” the senator said.

During his address at the Kisumu State Lodge last Sunday, Mr Esipisu said the government had allocated KShs 200 million to get rid of the water hyacinth.

It will be remembered that back in March last year, President Uhuru sent a top government delegation and Jubilee leaders to the lake region after residents said he had neglected them.

Led by Raphael Tuju, the team dismissed claims that Jubilee was killing the fish industry in Kenya by importing fish from China.
