Kisumu show provides a unique and important forum for the County of Kisumu and the neighboring Counties to attract Investors. Through the exhibitions in trade, manufacturing, research, education, agriculture; the show makes it possible to showcase the potential of the region to contribute immensely to the Country’s economic growth.
The Counties of the region have taken Agriculture as their main economic pillars.
By assisting farmers through provision of mechanized ploughing at subsidized rates, the County Governments have improved food production in the region. The County Government has also provided farmers with dairy cows and dairy goats to boost milk production.
For the above efforts to bear fruit, the local ASK secretariat appeals to the Governors and members of the County Assemblies to sponsor farmers groups to the show to learn modern farming technologies and also get market access contacts for their produce. At the show the farmers will have practical lessons on crop production and livestock production technologies. In addition farmers will have an opportunity to visit the exhibitors who will buy their produce or connect them to various markets and outlets.
The A.S.K. Kisumu Branch has engaged the County Government to maintain the demonstration plots and the Ministry of Agriculture Stand throughout the year.
This will enable farmers visit and access extension services not just during the show but throughout the year.
The show will take place on 27th to 31st July, 2016
The branch also would wish to appeal to Schools to facilitate students to attend the show in large numbers. At the show students get an opportunity to get Information on Career development through the various exhibitions and displays staged by industry, commerce and the various universities. They also get an opportunity to appreciate the importance of Agriculture at an early age.
At the show those in the fish Industry will get an opportunity to learn modern fish farming methods. There will be demonstrations on construction of fish ponds and hatches for fish fingerlings. Adoption of modern fish farming technologies will boost the fishing Industry in the region. Due to the reduced fish stock in the lake owing to overfishing, it is no longer viable for the fishing Community to solely depend on the lake for fish production.
The Governors of all the counties surrounding the lake region, i.e. Busia, Siaya, Vihiga, Nandi, Bomet, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori and Homabay have also been requested to take part in the Kisumu show to share information and exchange ideas on economic and social development issues.
Being a public facility for knowledge upgrading and the development of farmers in particular and residents of Kisumu County in general, the secretariat wishes to request the County Government to finance the development of showground facilities to make it the premier exhibition and trade fair for the region. Some of the facilities required to provide Kisumu with a modern showground include permanent fence, modern arena sheds with seating terraces, floodlights, modern exhibition halls.
The A.S.K. Kisumu Branch wishes to encourage the business community in Kisumu to take up business premises at the showground. The show facilities are available for use throughout the year. We have premises for private offices, workshops, warehouses etc.
The showground arena is also ideal for sports including Rugby, Football, and Athletics etc. The grounds are also good for Church gatherings, weddings, music concerts, picnics etc 🙂
