As the CORD brigade alias the #IEBCMustFall team in Nairobi was taking their peaceful protest to the Anniversary Towers – the seat of the IEBC, their Kisumu counterparts were not left behind.
Starting early morning, the various protestants gathered starting from Kondele as they made headway to the IEBC offices in Milimani, Kisumu, just behind the County Headquarters.
The police were already prepared to curtail any upheaval that would erupt. As such, running battles had begun as the loyal team of demonstrators had reached the Kisumu CBD along the Achieng’ Oneko Road, leading to the IEBC grounds.
Shots could be heard from all over, until this happened:
One Boniface Akach of the Sitrusha Mawe Tena Campaign (a peaceful demonstration non-violence campaign group that calls on demonstrators not to use stones in the agitation of their rights).
Boniface came across an unspent tear gas canister cartridge, that was thrown at the Sophisticate beauty college, in the Kisumu CBD, and with all humility handed it over to the police, who were now patrolling the streets. What a hero!
