The County Government of Kisumu in partnership with Kenya Youth Business Trust (KYBT) an NGO have partnered together in a program dubbed #WezeshaProject.
The program targeting youth from Manyatta, an informal settlement area within Kisumu City, aims at training and empowering them with adequate skills that will enable them become entrepreneurs as well as giving them the knowledge on how to source for capital to kick start their various business ideas.
Through this program, we seek to develop an all-round student whereby our all-inclusive training will prepare them for the competitive job market once they are through with training. On top of the training, the trainees will be provided with ideas on how to access funds to set up their businesses.
While officiating the training of the youth at Akado Youth Polytechnic in Kisumu, Governor Ranguma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the youth whom he had pledged to support through his manifesto.
I am very pleased to fulfill the pledges I had made to the youth which are now rapidly coming to fruition. This is just but a fraction of the plans that I have in store for the youth whom are the backbone of sustenance for any society. He says.
The first phase of this 12 month pilot program will offer participants training on small business management, loans, mentoring, networking, technical training and personal development.
During their course work, trainees will be expected to create and submit business plans which will then be reviewed by a select committee and the viable business proposals approved receive seed capital. Once funds have been disbursed, the entrepreneurs are matched to a volunteer business mentor for a period of time.
