Yesterday, H.E. Governor Ranguma officially launched the Governor’s scholarship award worth KShs 22 million to 210 students from the county.
Six students (3 male and 3 female) who excelled in last year’s KCPE drawn from each of the 35 wards make up the 210 scholarship awardees. The students were selected through a transparent and fair process by a board (education committee) at all the wards and the deserving students who applied were considered.
Through this scholarship program, the students will be supported until they complete their Secondary School education. The county government will spend KShs 22 million per year in support of this program.
Making education accessible to bright students, regardless of their socio-economic background, is integral to Governor Jack Ranguma’s mission to transform Kisumu into a competitive regional hub.
According to the governor,
Our identity as a great Kisumu County community is inextricably tied to our ability to ensure that the best students, the most promising of the next generation of scholars, regardless of socioeconomic status, can continue with education to their full potential.
This vision informed the award of the KShs 22 million worth of full secondary education scholarships at KShs 120,000 annually to the 210 bright and needy students from all corners of the county. This is in addition to the KShs 70 million bursary fund he also recently commissioned to be distributed equally across all the wards.
